How I Got to Be Standing Here Right Now with You

Join us for MSoP’s October 4th meeting as we welcome Mike “Scoats” Scotese—an artist who never planned to become one. Scoats will share the surprising path that led from a single mosaic project at the Grey Lodge Pub & Lucky Cat Brewing to the creation of bold, large-scale installations and an evolving ten-year mosaic environment known as Scoatssylvania.

In this lively, story-rich presentation, Scoats will walk us through the projects that shaped his journey: the Grey Lodge restrooms, the “Around the Bar” mosaic, the mosaic-covered bathroom and shed at his former home, and many more. He’ll also offer a candid look at his creative philosophy, the joy of making art without pretense, the impermanence of materials, and what’s next—including new explorations with concrete. Attendees will get a peek inside his workshop, tools, and process, plus an update on the current state of Scoatssylvania as it enters its fifth year.

Following the meeting, Scoats is offering an optional visit to his home to view Scoatssylvania in person. Details will be shared during the event. Plan on extra time after the meeting for the visit!

Bring a wrapped mini mosaic (4" × 6" or smaller) inspired by Fish Can to participate in this month’s trade. Remember – only those who bring a mini mosaic to exchange can participate.
